Summary of Presentation – It is no surprise that bankruptcy is a high-risk discipline within mortgage servicing. Even after the crisis, the mortgage servicing industry continues to lag in terms of technology, operational efficiencies, and risk management within the bankruptcy space. As we learned through the myriad of regulatory settlements since 2010, regulators do not ignore bankruptcy. Bankruptcy was often the trigger for investigations and, in some scenarios, the hurdle for completing an otherwise resolved settlement. As a result, the best-in-class organizations within default servicing are embracing these topics to adequately position their bankruptcy department for the next wave of defaults.
